Cat6 cables are better than Cat5e cables in terms of speed and reliability. Cat6 cable has more twisted pairs, so compared to Cat5 and Cat5e cables, there is less crosstalk. Nevertheless, Cat 5e and Cat6 Ethernet cables have the same sheath size. Some Cat6 manufacturers place splines in the cable to reduce twisting and more separation, which requires less copper. Because Cat6 has the potential for higher speed and less crosstalk, many homes and business owners choose to use Cat6 cable networks.

Like Cat5e, Cat6 can also reach speeds of 1 Gbps, but the main difference is that the latter achieves these speeds with a bandwidth of up to 250 MHz. The cable is more tightly braided than Cat5e.

CAT6A cable
Another type of Ethernet cable is the Cat6a cable. The cable is designed to support 10Gbase-T networks because Cat5e and Cat6 cables can only support up to 2.5 Gigabit and 5 Gigabit data rates, respectively. "A" stands for enhanced, which means it can run at higher speeds over long distances and is also backward compatible with Cat5e and Cat6. It also has very little crosstalk. Because Cat6a cables have better performance, they can support bandwidth frequencies up to 500 MHz, which is twice the capacity of Cat6 and five times the capacity of Cat5e.

Cables have more shielding, enabling them to eliminate crosstalk. Cat6a cables have a thicker sheath than Cat6, but with grooves to help guide the twisted pairs around each other. Cat6a usually uses spline construction to help deal with crosstalk. Cat6a cables are best suited for more demanding settings, such as industrial environments, or any place with more than gigabit network connections.
