Do you want to attain professional registration as a Professional Technologist (P.Tech) in Alberta? If yes, then you must achieve a positive ASET assessment. For that, you must know the whole system and the eligibility criteria you need to fulfill.

P.Tech Eligibility criteria:
Becoming a Professional Technologist will help you take your career to the next level. A P.Tech (Geo.)/(Eng.) member has the right to work as an engineer or geoscientist independently within a defined scope of practice and as per the established codes and standards.
This right will also allow you to sign and stamp your own engineering or geoscience work. Now, let’s move ahead to know about the eligibility criteria you need to satisfy.
To be eligible for P.Tech. (Eng.)/(Geo.) registration, you need to:
Be a graduate of a 2-year technical post-secondary program
Be a C.E.T. member of ASET in good standing
Possess a minimum of 6 years of post-graduate technical geoscience or engineering experience, including a minimum of 2 years under the supervision of an Alberta P.Eng. or P.Geo.

Application process:
You need to apply online and pay the required fees.
Staff will open your file to get the transcript/academic assessment from the C.E.T. application.
You have to upload a work experience spreadsheet for an ASET assessment.
Offer contact information for professional references
You must complete National Professional Practice Exam (NPPE).
Staff will review the experience spreadsheet and ask for extra information if required.
Subject matter expert reviewers will conduct an application pre-evaluation (3-4 weeks after submission).
APEGA/ASET Joint Board of Examiners will review the completed application and make a decision on registration. (JBoE meetings happen quarterly).
Decision letters will be sent to new members 3-4 weeks after the board decision.
New P. Tech members may order a digital or/and physical professional stamp.
A new P. Tech member may order a framed certificate or/and member ring.
P.Tech members are subject to the completion of yearly Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
